About this event

Trail Action Steering Committee (TASC)

What it is: A group of trail users and organizations—each with different interests—would work together to carry out parts of the Gifford Pinchot Sustainable Trail System Strategic Plan (April 2025). The group will help determine which actions to focus on first and then will work together with the Forest Service to implement them. Members will build stronger relationships, improve communication, coordinate maintenance, collaborate across organizations, and support the development of sustainable trails.

Details: - Partners/Individuals elect to join the TASC (i.e., the Forest Service will not select members) - Agenda will be set by the TASC - Meet two times per year, fall and spring. First meeting is to take place Tuesday Nov 17, 2026, 6 pm, in Vancouver, WA at Gifford Pinchot Forest Headquarters. - In person recommended, hybrid optional - There are likely to be subcommittee/smaller working groups that would need to meet more frequently depending on projects/need

Below are some possible project ideas the TASC, with the Forest Service, could decide to work together on. The list is not comprehensive and not final and is meant to provide some ideas on the types of project this group could collaborate on.

Potential Project Ideas: - Use the Sustainable Trail Assessment Tool to identify trails/areas and what is needed to bring the trail/area closer to sustainability (i.e., Siouxon area, Dark Divide, etc.)

- Update trail information to be more descriptive - Identify and help prioritize trail bridge replacements - Identify potential reroute/new trail construction ideas - Investigate how existing trails (motorized and nonmotorized) can have better interconnectivity. - Update/replace trail signs - Redesign old historic trails to be more sustainable - Create a tool cache of specialty tools that can be checked out to groups
