About this event

"These go to 11."

“This Is Spinal Tap” shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real. (summary from Letterboxd)

This is Rob Reiner's directorial debut and one of the first in the mockumentary genre. Staring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer as the band Spinal Tap. Also staring Rob Reiner as the documentarian, June Chadwick and cameos of actors in their pre-fame days.

Where to Watch: "This Is Spinal Tap" is available for free on Pluto and for rent on numerous platforms (note that streaming options can change). Another option is to rent from Movie Madness.

Here’s How it Works: Just like a book club, we watch the movie on our own time before we meet. This event will be held at the Lucky Lab on SE Hawthorne at 4pm on the scheduled date. We'll post beforehand where in Lucky Lab we'll be sitting. Grab some food and drinks to support our generous hosts and spend some time socializing and discussing this movie with us. Don't forget to tip our servers!

About this Group and What to Expect: Musicals, Music and Film is an exploration of musicals but also non-musical films where music is essential to the plot or plays an influential role including but not limited to movies about dancing, music biopics, plots that evolve around music events or places, documentaries or movies that have notable soundtracks/needle drop moments, etc.

At the end of our discussion we'll rate the movie and vote for the next choice from the host’s list (unless the next movie has already been chosen). There will also be an opportunity for the group members attending to make movie suggestions.
