Governor Tina Kotek signed a law that bans all plastic bags at checkouts in restaurants, grocery stores, and retail shops with the ban set to begin January 7+ the law goes further than the 2020 ban on thinner bags by also banning thicker bags to help reduce ocean pollution.

Officials urged visitors at Glenn Otto Park to wear life vests as rising temperatures this weekend will draw more people to the river and dangerous currents remain a risk.

They warned that children must always wear a life vest and be supervised (free vests are available from rescue services).
