French Conversation - Club Cinéma

Bienvenue tout le monde! Our French Conversation Meetup gathers at TaborSpace almost every Saturday. Starting at noon, you are welcome to socialize with group members and chat informally in French. At 1:30, anyone who would like may optionally participate in the "Club Cinéma" subgroup for a French film discussion. Please watch the film BEFORE we gather. You can see the film on any of your preferred streaming services.

"December 1897, Paris. Edmond Rostand is not yet thirty but already has two children and a lot of anxieties. He has not written anything for two years. In desperation, he offers the great Constant Coquelin a new play, a heroic comedy, in verse, for the holidays. Only concern: it is not written yet. Ignoring the whims of actresses, the demands of his Corsican producers, the jealousy of his wife, the stories of his best friend's heart and the lack of enthusiasm of all those around him, Edmond starts writing this piece which nobody believes in. For now, he has only the title: "Cyrano de Bergerac"."

« Décembre 1897, Paris. Edmond Rostand n’a pas encore trente ans, mais il a déjà deux enfants et bien des soucis. Cela fait deux ans qu’il n’a rien écrit. En désespoir de cause, il propose au grand Constant Coquelin une nouvelle pièce, une comédie héroïque en vers, pour les fêtes. Seul souci : elle n’est pas encore écrite. Faisant fi des caprices des actrices, des exigences de ses producteurs corses, de la jalousie de sa femme, des histoires de cœur de son meilleur ami et du manque d’enthousiasme de tous ceux qui l’entourent, Edmond se met à écrire cette pièce à laquelle personne ne croit. Pour l’instant, il n’a que le titre : « Cyrano de Bergerac ». »
